Letter of support from Amy Golumbia - Director of Silverwire
February 14th 2009
Dear Selection Committee for Sauvé Scholars,
I am humbled to write a letter of support in favour of Josephine Tsui’s candidacy for the Sauvé Scholars Program. I have known Josephine since September 2008 (6 months) through her affiliation with True Vision Ghana (TVG) and Silverwire. Silverwire is a donor agency which I started to fund small local projects in Ghana. As the director of Silverwire, I was put in contact with TVG as a possible donor where I met Evelyn Tanaka and Fausti Vimariba. As a possible donor I asked for two referees and was put in touch with Josephine via Evelyn.
What immediately impressed me was Josephine’s intimate knowledge of the political economic nature of Ghana’s development. Her thorough understanding of the international development sector within Ghana and the interaction within the public administration is impressive and aided me in putting TVG in context within Ghana’s poverty reduction strategy. She was especially helpful in understanding what she thinks are TVG’s strengths and how Silverwire can best support TVG in their endeavours.
Next I was pleasantly surprised that Josephine and I operate in similar social justice circles in Calgary. I have worked with the local Calgary Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders/MSF) which I was astonished that Josephine started the group. We now have a mutual friend who took over MSF after Josephine with whom I am still in contact with. These new found mutual acquaintances only show Josephine’s leadership and commitment to social justice.
I have the utmost confidence that Josephine will make an impact and I fully support her as a future Sauvé Scholar. The time she took with me to answer all my questions about TVG and Ghana was heartfelt. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me with my details below.
Sincerely,
Amy Golumbia, RHN, NCP
